Forum Publishing set to celebrate 30th year servicing the industry!

In May 2011 Martin Stevens and Forum Publishing Company will celebrate its 30th Anniversary servicing the wholesale/retail industry. The first magazine the company published called Flea Market Forum was launched with 100.00 and crossed fingers, as it would be the first magazine for flea market vendors in the business. With a 100.00 investment for a brochure and mailing, after two months enough funds were raised to print the first edition, which was a local tri-state 24 page newspaper. Martin personally handed out the copies at flea markets throughout New York, New Jersey and Connecticut by driving them over and walking the aisles.

Keep in mind that the start of the magazine was BEFORE the advent of the computer OR fax machine! Business was done by regular mail and phone. The advantage back in 1981 was that there was no competition and sourcing goods was extremely difficult. The idea of the magazine took off quickly, with the sales doubling and tripling every year for the next decade. Flea Market Forum changed its name and focus to Marketers Forum and then later to Retailers Forum to better reflect its readership of independent stores. Swap Meet Magazine was established to continue the work done for the flea market industry and has been operating now for 22 years.

Over the years the company has expanded to include dozens of wholesale merchandise directories, an incredible online magazine and website as well as a full service printing shop offering high quality printing from two locations in the USA at wholesale pricing.

Forum Publishing continues to grow and embrace the new technologies available to our industry and looks forward to many more years serving the wholesale/retail community. We are proud to receive so many letters over the years from new businesses that we helped find their way to success.
