Why Memberships just don’t work.

Owning and operating a FREE online wholesale directory enables me to speak with dozens of wholesale suppliers through out my work week. I would like to take a minute to address the issue of charging suppliers a membership fee to list within a wholesale directory, wholesale search engine, listing source etc.

Let’s say you’re going to do a search on the internet, where do you go? Most would answer Google. Why? Well probably because when searching you receive an extremely comprehensive list of results. Does Google charge a membership fee??? No of course not. That’s very interesting don’t you think….they don’t charge a membership fee because it would defeat their very purpose, to offer the most relevant search results. .

 

 

Let’s face it, membership fees do just one thing and one thing only, they make money for those charging the fees. I think everyone can find better uses for their marketing dollars.

Wholesale directories or Wholesale search engines are targeting who?? The wholesale buyer. For the directory to succeed they must provide an excellent resource of information to that prospective buyer looking for qualified wholesalers. How will any membership fee ensure that success, on the contrary it will prevent the source from growing to limitless potential. This is really just common sense but those charging membership fees would have you believe it is some magical voodoo necessity to charge memberships or require pre-paid pay- per click banks. Ask them why? By limiting their supplier listings are they not limiting their prospective buyers? See what kind of answers you get. Maybe they will answer that you only pay when a buyer actually clicks on your company listing (pay-per click), ok…well I just clicked on your listing, you paid and I am not a buyer. That happens thousands of times per day, sales people, consumers, other consulting businesses and many more types of non-buyers click on your listing, not to mention the provider themselves might do the unthinkable and self-click your listing.

Put yourself into the wholesale buyer’s shoes. You find several sources of information online. One of those sources offers several hundred wholesalers for you to choose from, another offers literally thousands. Where do you think you would shop? The larger source of course, if you said the smaller source I would be surprised, I would also like you to call me as I would like to exchange my much larger shinier nickels for your small tiny and tarnished dimes

So next time you are thinking of paying a membership fee or starting a pay per-click bank somewhere stop! It is just simply not necessary to do so.
